This is a rant about Eminem, so if you like him you may just want to skip this entry...
I know that a lot of people think he's a genius, and it's "all an act", but he sickens me. So many people get persecuted and censored for the way they live their lives (peaceful choices that don't affect anyone but themselves), yet it's perfectly fine for him to be so anti-everything. Yes, I know about freedom of speech and his right to say whatever he wants, but why does society have to make him such a damn hero? That's why I have such a problem with him- so many people have embraced him and the things that he expresses in his lyrics. Every time I see his angry, spiteful face I just want to scream. And he just keeps getting more and more attention.
Why am I ranting about this? I'm sick of seeing his face all over magazines and television. It's one thing to choose to buy his music or see his movie, but it's another to have it constantly rammed down my throat.
For what it's worth, I totally agree with you.

Yeah, it is amazing how people idolize a person so full of hate... Didnt they do that to Hitler also??

well, i wouldn't compare the guy to hitler.. see my own rant at: http://rivervision.com/blog/imtrying/archives/000444.html#000444
but, yeah.. i definetly agree with you chel on eminem. i'm tired of seeing him all over. and yes there is the free speech issue.. but that doesn't mean going overboard. what about the whole message of loving and accepting others no matter who they might be.. no matter what their religion is, or skin color, gender identity, sexual preferance, nationality, social class, body size, ability or disability, and and and.. why isn't that being shoved down our throats as much as eminem is?
i'll shut up now.

I completely agree, he's one of the people I would love to see smacked, very hard, right to the ground. I don't usually condone violence, but I have to admit, there are some people in this world who are so horrible (and dare I say it, evil), I do wish they would get a right good thumping.
Not very peace loving of me, I know. :p

While I don't agree with everything he does and don't particularly want to see his movie or buy his cd, I do enjoy some of his songs for the catchy tune not the words. I guess I'm lucky to not have to see him around on the mags or on tv. I guess it's one the good things that comes with not watching much tv and only reading certain types of movies. :) But I can totally see you stand point!

What kills me is how people in the industry say he's such a talented and respected writer. I just don't see it.

In general, I think he's a talentless twit. I have to confess, though, that I get in a "crank it up" mood occasionally, and I do love the beat to some of his songs. But it always makes me feel guilty. I hate songs that do that. I love "Under My Thumb" by the Rolling Stones, but I'm absolutely a feminist who is appalled by the lyrics. A lesser evil, I also love "Been Caught Stealing", but I absolutely would never shoplift. I get disgusted with myself for liking the beat or melody to a song that has absolutely outrageous lyrics.
BTW, has anyone ever seen that Marshall Mathers kid SMILE? He's always sneering or really, really angry looking. Kinda scary!

Just saw on your sidebar about the cd's ... how's the new Tracy Chapman cd? I actually haven't heard any of her new stuff (Victoria radio stinks! and i don't watch MuchMusic (canadian MTV)) but I love her older work.
Are you liking the new Tori? Willow and I can't seem to listen to it enough!

i love eminem even if poeple think hes bad hes been though alot in his life and thats how he was raised it stae his mind i think he should go ahead and say anything he wants to say and if poeple dont like him just keep that to yourself because your saying that you dont like him for who he is so your just acting like him by saying bad things about him and speaking your minds as well.

eminem is a legend no matter what anyone says he has achieved soooo much and 8mile was such a great movie and his rapping skill are just out of this world he is one truly amazing person that has done soo well for himself and I could only hope to get that far in my life and his face should be all over tvs and magazines because how many other people can say i replaced my own number 1 hit no one so there you go and even if you don't like eminems music you must give him credit for all the great things eminem has achieved after trying so hard to get himself there so get over it we all know he rocks

Eminem is talented, just not in the good way; if he weren't talented at all, if he were just another schmuck off the street, he wouldn't sell as many albums as he does.
Eminem is good at selling records.. for example, his most recent record? Absolutely terrible.. but he sold it by making the single sound like his old music, which is at least enough to make me crack a smile. What I really hate about Eminem is.. well.. his inability to be logical.
We're all familiar with Eminem blasting his fans, being sick of everybody delving into his personal life, etc... but then he raps about his personal life, does his best to get everybody involved, and even releases a movie loosely based on.. guess who? Him. And his life.
